PLAYING GUIDE

The target here is 128

Slide the whole board in one of four directions. Equal tiles combine into their sum and the goal is a 128 tile. Each tile merges at most once in a single move. A fresh tile appears only after a move changes the board.

Order matters inside a row

For a left move, a row containing 2, 2, 2 does not become 6. The first pair merges to 4 and the third 2 remains separate. Likewise, a tile created by that merge cannot immediately merge again during the same move.

Keep working space

An empty cell gives the board room to rearrange. Try keeping large tiles along one side while merging smaller tiles nearby. Moving in the opposite direction may be necessary, but first check whether it breaks the order you have built.

Do not confuse an unchanged move with a turn

Pressing a direction that changes nothing does not add another tile. Use that fact to understand the state, but do not rely on repeating it to make progress. The round ends when no legal move remains. Reach 128 first, then start again to compare approaches.
