ARCADE PLAYBOOK

Turn another attempt into something learned.

Eleven game-specific guides turn racing, flying, aiming, catching, remembering and merging into deliberate practice. Each explains a decision, offers two experiments and asks you to diagnose a mistake.

Choose a skill, then test one change

Start with a game you already recognise. Read its failure diagnosis, run one experiment and compare the observation with the explanation. The three calculators below let you isolate a rule without disturbing a saved round.

These are original practice protocols checked against Playfield’s game rules. They are not records of human playtests, promised score improvements or advice for every version of a similarly named game.

Control motion

Circuit Kart

Circuit Kart: complete the lap you intended to drive

Learn why checkpoint order, heading and a usable exit matter more than holding maximum speed around the oval.

  • Following ordered checkpoints
  • Separating heading from track position
  • Trading straight-line speed for a controllable exit

River Racer

River Racer: read the current before chasing a buoy

A practical guide to lateral drift, rock avoidance, buoy streaks and deliberate omissions on the river.

  • Recognising drift without steering
  • Choosing a buoy with a safe exit
  • Separating hull damage from lost speed

Rocket Lander

Rocket Lander: fix the velocity before the touchdown

A landing guide that separates sideways braking, vertical slowing, orientation and finite engine fuel.

  • Reading sideways and downward velocity
  • Using tilted thrust to brake drift
  • Preparing all touchdown conditions together

Aim and plan

Use information

Memory Pairs

Memory Pairs: choose between a sure pair and new information

Make a turn-by-turn decision map for known pairs, known singletons and unseen cards without mistaking luck for recall.

  • Separate knowledge from guesses
  • Use the first reveal to update the plan
  • Compare guaranteed progress with exploration

Doubling Tiles

Merge Double: read the move before the new tile appears

Use exact row examples and empty-cell accounting to separate deterministic merges from the next spawned 2.

  • Read compression and merge order
  • Count space gained before spawning
  • Keep predictions separate from spawn assumptions

Experiment tools

Change an input, inspect the outcome and read exactly what the calculation does and does not establish. All three run locally; inputs are neither saved nor submitted.
