PLAYING GUIDE
A legal move must bracket discs
Place your disc so that a straight horizontal, vertical or diagonal line contains one or more opposing discs followed by your existing disc. All bracketed discs on legal lines flip. Merely placing beside an opponent is not enough.
The early disc count can mislead
Taking the largest number of discs immediately may give the opponent many useful replies. Look at the legal choices your move leaves behind. A smaller capture can be better when it restricts the opponent’s movement or preserves access to a corner.
Treat corners differently
A corner has no square beyond it, so it cannot be bracketed along a line after it is occupied. Squares beside an empty corner need care: occupying one can provide a path for the opponent to take that corner. Check the actual capture line rather than avoiding those squares automatically.
A pass is sometimes required
Pass only if no legal placement exists. The game ends when neither player can move, which can happen before every square is filled. The player with the most discs then wins. This page is a local two-player game; take turns on the same device.
